Driver taken to hospital after animal in highway causes 2-vehicle crash
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - One driver was taken to a metro area hospital after an “animal” in the middle of a Missouri highway caused a 2-vehicle crash.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that around 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, emergency crews were called to the area of Highway 50 and Missouri Highway 7 with reports of a 2-vehicle crash.
When first responders arrived, they said they found a 27-year-old Lee’s Summit man had been driving a 2014 Nissan Versa west on the highway when he braked for an animal in the road. Despite his efforts, the car hit the animal and was hit from behind by a 2012 Hyundai Accent driven by a 50-year-old Blue Springs man.
State Troopers noted that the impact caused the Nissan to slide off the left side of the highway. The driver was taken to Research Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other driver escaped the crash without injury.
Investigators said everyone involved in the crash had been properly restrained at the time. Both vehicles were totaled as a result. No further information has been released.
