Several members of the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association stepped forward following the announcement declaring that 10 percent of their sales on Saturday, May 3, would go directly to the scholarship.

One of those, Pizza 51. The owner, Jason Pryor, says this first responder loss struck him.

“The tragedy itself hits home with my own son training to be a firefighter himself,” he said. “I get choked up. Obviously, a sadness, a senseless tragedy, something that probably could’ve been avoided.”

Pryor said when he learned of the fundraiser and scholarship, he jumped on board.

“Being a part of this is just a small piece of the community puzzle. We’re just happy to be a part of it,” he said.
