Super Bowl-winning QBs compete over Kansas City burger chains

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his KMO Burger-owned Whataburger locations in the Kansas City metro will soon have some championship competition.
Smalls Sliders, backed by former NFL star Drew Brees, just inked a franchise agreement. The deal calls for nine locations in the Kansas City area. The first restaurant is expected to open later this year.
Exact locations for the nine Smalls Sliders restaurants have not been released, but the company said it is looking at sites on both sides of the state line.
Smalls Sliders opened its first location, known as a “can” because of its small size, in 2019. Each location has a drive-thru and walk-up window. The chain is known for its limited menu of cooked-to-order cheeseburger sliders.

Burgers aren’t the only thing Smalls Sliders and Whataburger have in common. The two fast food chains both utilize orange and white in their logos and restaurant designs.
Whataburger opened it’s first metro location in Lee’s Summit in 2021, at Mahomes’ request.
That same year KMO Burger announced it signed a franchise deal with Whataburger and had Mahomes as an investor. KMO Burger is working to open more than two dozen Whataburger locations from Wichita to St. Joseph by 2028.
