Yelp released its Top 10 cities for BBQ in the US. Kansas City came in at No. 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Any Kansas City resident knows the City of Fountains is famous for its barbecue. Yelp agreed it’s one of the country’s best, but not quite at the top of the rankings.
The crowd-sourced review company stated that Kansas City is No. 3 in its Top 10 Cities for BBQ in the U.S. list unveiled on Wednesday, behind Texas cities Austin and San Antonio, respectively.
“Kansas City has earned a reputation as a top barbecue destination because of its signature sauce and legendary burnt ends. Restaurants like Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, which boasts more than 3,500 5-star reviews, are famous for serving their meats with that signature tangy-sweet Kansas City-style sauce,” Yelp’s article stated. “The burnt ends are a local specialty, made from the crispy, flavorful end pieces of smoked brisket; they’re especially popular at restaurants like Jack Stack Barbecue and Q39 Midtown.”

Yelp stated that Kansas City, Missouri, rounded out its top three, “thanks to its wide selection of meats, hickory-smoked flavors, and a signature sweet and tangy barbecue sauce.”
The rest of the top 10 were:
- No. 4: Memphis, Tennessee
- No. 5: Charleston, South Carolina
- No. 6: Greenville, South Carolina
- No. 7: Honolulu, Hawaii
- No. 8: Tulsa, Oklahoma
- No. 9: Durham, North Carolina
- No. 10: Nashville, Tennessee
