KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A bit of good economic news: last month, inflation rose 2.8 percent on an annual basis. That’s a little lower than economists had expected.

And lower than the 3 percent on an annual basis in January.

But still, the price of eggs has everyone talking. So we did a fact check.

On Tuesday, the White House posted on “X, ”claiming egg prices plunged nearly $2 a dozen.

That was true. The U.S. Department of Agriculture showed the average cost of a dozen eggs is down.

On Tuesday, a dozen was $5.51. Great news following an all-time high of $8.17 a few weeks earlier.

But the Consumer Price Index report released Wednesday showed egg prices were a leading driver in the increase in food inflation. The cost of eggs jumped 58.8 percent from a year ago.
