OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - Theatre in the Park (TIP) is named the 2025 Governor’s Arts Award for Arts Organization of the Year.

The award is presented by the Kansas Arts Commission and recognizes TIP’s contributions to the cultural life in Kansas. It also recognizes over 50 years of shows, programming and community support.

“This award belongs to our entire community,” said TIP Producing Artistic Director Tim Bair. “It’s a celebration of everyone — on stage, behind the scenes, and in the audience — who believes in the power of the arts to connect and uplift.”

Theatre in the Park was founded in 1970, and the outdoor amphitheatre is located in Shawnee Mission Park. Local artists perform shows each season that reflect the community TIP serves. Additionally, the organization offers educational programs, outreach initiatives and partnerships with schools and nonprofits. These programs and initiatives make arts accessible to all.

TIP keeps ticket prices low, which is part of the mission focused on accessibility. During the 2024 season, 30,000 people attended a show.
