Chiefs bring back familiar safety after year away from organization

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly reached an agreement with a familiar face in the secondary after a year away from the organization.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, safety Mike Edwards is returning to the Chiefs on a one-year deal.
Edwards, 28, signed to the Buffalo Bills practice squad in 2024 and played three games with the Bills before being released and claimed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played the first four seasons of his career.

The veteran safety spent the 2023 season with the Chiefs, playing 17 games and starting five of them for Kansas City during a season in which the team won Super Bowl 58.
Edwards had 51 tackles for the Chiefs that season and had a fumble recovery that he flipped to safety Bryan Cook for a fumble return touchdown in Kansas City’s win over the Miami Dolphins in Germany that season.
The Kentucky product was a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He joins a Chiefs safety unit that includes Jaden Hicks, Chamarri Conner, Bryan Cook and Deon Bush.
