KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Monday, the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup series, featuring internationally recognized soccer player Lionel Messi, was postponed.

Sporting Kansas City and Inter Miami CF were supposed to play Tuesday night as part of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round One series. The game will now be played on Wednesday, Feb. 19 with kickoff at 7 p.m. at Children’s Mercy Park.

In a statement, Concacaf (the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) explained that a storm system entering the Kansas City area with a chance for “significant snow accumulation” led to the change.

“The decision to reschedule the match has been made to prioritize player and fan safety, and in close coordination with the two participating clubs and the local authorities,” Concacaf said.

Despite rumors that Lionel Messi, captain of both Inter Miami CF and Argentina’s national team, would bow out of the frigid conditions, Inter Miami CF also confirmed Monday he is “100%” available to play.
